The Rotary Club of Bonds Meadow- Randy Rager Scholarship
|
|
|
The Rotary Club of Bonds Meadow, Westminster, Maryland was founded in 1994. It is part of Rotary International, an organization of 32,000 clubs in more than 200 countries with 1.2 million members.
The purpose of Rotary is to bring together business and professional leaders to provide humanitarian service, to encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and to help build goodwill and peace in the world. Members of the Bonds Meadow Club meet weekly for breakfast, hold various fundraisers, and use their resources and time to support dozens of local charities and to reach out to support others in need from around the world.
Rotary is not a political or religious organization. Rather, its members are a diverse group of men and women interested in living the Rotary motto of Service Above Self.
On January 6th 2007, the Westminster community lost a stalwart friend, father, businessperson and community leader when Randy E. Rager, a charter member of the Bonds Meadow club, unexpectedly passed away. Randy exemplified all that Rotary stands for and this scholarship is a lasting legacy for The Rotary Club of Bonds Meadow and Randy, a Rotarian for more than 20 years.
Originally with the Westminster Rotary, he then transferred to become a charter member of the Bonds Meadow club in 1994. He served as Treasurer of Rotary
District 7620, encompassing 64 clubs in Maryland, and engendered wide admiration within the Rotary district for a job well done.
Randy was bright, kind, and generous. He was a model Rotarian, a model businessman, and a highly regarded mentor to many. He combined a determined work ethic with a friendly disposition.
The Rotary Club of Bonds Meadow Randy E. Rager Scholarship Fund will support two post-secondary scholarships to be awarded annually to graduates of Winters Mill and Westminster High Schools (one each) who have shown the capacity to achieve in the face of adversity and who have been accepted at an accredited college, university or technical school.
The goal of the Bonds Meadow club is to raise $100,000 in order to provide fairly sizable scholarships to worthy recipients at both Winters Mill and Westminster High Schools. Now and forever, this scholarship fund will help worthy students continue their education and hopefully some day, give back to their community as Randy did all his life.
