Finnen, Caila I.T. Memorial Scholarship

The Caila Isabel Teresa Finnen Memorial Scholarship was established to honor the memory of Caila who was a member of the North Carroll High School Class of 2008. Above all else, Caila loved people. At her young age of 16, she had already set goals for her career as a psychologist and counselor of underprivileged children and troubled teens. She was set to be a peer counselor in her senior year at North Carroll. Her interests were so varied that it is hard to list them all but; they included lacrosse, theater, music and plans for foreign travel. As, a lacrosse player, Caila was more of a cheerleader for her team then an accomplished player but, was always excited about her team’s progress and was willing to “go in” whenever she was called on. She had improved greatly in her junior year and was planning to play more in her senior year.

Theatre was a new interest for Caila and she truly enjoyed acting. She enjoyed all the aspects of theater and was willing to be involved even if it was as a stage hand or make up artist. She had plans of increasing her theatre participation as a senior. Caila was also extremely excited about a school trip to Greece and Italy planned for the summer of 2008.

Mostly Caila was proud of her friends. She did not judge people by the color of their skin, height of their stature, or the girth of their frame. Her only criterion was that they were her friend and she had many friends in the community. Caila also had a love for children and a knack for caring for them. Children naturally loved her.

Caila was the younger of two children. Her brother is grown and has long since established a home and family of his own, so Caila enjoyed the benefits of being an only child. On July 5th, 2007 we lost Caila in a tragic car accident. The grief of her family and friends and the outpouring of support will be re-invested in the creation of a College scholarship. The goal of this fund will be to allow worthy middle income students an opportunity to obtain a college education. As a junior in high school now facing her senior year, Caila was well aware of the probable cost of education. She planned to try to qualify for scholarships but was also aware that her first two years of college may be at the community college, this being the most economic way to gain a college education. For this reason, this college fund will be established to allow a struggling family some assistance in their child’s educational cost. The focus will be for those students who have demonstrated and interest in pursuing a career in the field including, but not limited to, psychology, early childhood education, or special education. Above all this scholarship is dedicated to the memory of Caila Finnen who lives on in the hearts of those who loved her.
